Free city bus travel expanding in City and North Adelaide
Free city bus travel expanding in City and North Adelaide begins Monday 27 January.
The joint initiative between the State Government and Adelaide City Council provides free bus travel from the CBD past the redeveloped Adelaide Oval to North Adelaide.
Two loops will operate on the City Connector – one large loop 98A/98C and one small loop 99A/99C using environmentally friendly buses including the solar-powered Tindo.
Minister for Transport Services Chloë Fox said the new timetable for the free City Connector service will come into effect from Monday, 27 January 2014.
"Adelaide is regarded as one of the most liveable cities in the world and ensuring we have frequent and accessible public transport is key to maintaining that accolade,” she said.
“The extended free bus service links the residential areas of North Adelaide with the commercial, sporting and cultural precincts that give Adelaide its vibrancy.
“On weekdays, the City Connector will provide a 15-minute frequency through the city and a 30 minute frequency to North Adelaide. At the weekend, only the 30-minute service will operate, linking the city and North Adelaide.”
The City Connector has been created by merging Adelaide Metro’s City Loop service with the Adelaide City Council’s free city bus services.
City of Adelaide Councillor David Plumridge said the new service will make the city more accessible.
“Workers can use it to get to meetings or to try out new places for lunch, visitors will be able to explore more of the city, and residents will be able to get to key destinations – all for free,” he said .
“The new service will use larger, modern, high quality, low floor, wheelchair accessible and airconditioned buses. This will make it possible for more people to get around the city with ease and in comfort.
“The new service is also more frequent and runs for longer each day, from early in the morning until 7.15pm daily, with additional services operating on Friday evenings until 9.15pm.
“We’re still in the process of finalising bus stop locations and progressively upgrading the bus stops so we ask for patience as this is completed.”
