Sydney seniors getting ready to rock at ‘Prom Night’ ball
Elderly clients of UnitingCare Ageing’s services across Sydney are getting ready to rock at this year’s Seniors’ Ball at the Hordern Pavilion in the Moore Park Entertainment Precinct.
Hundreds of seniors are expected to attend the ball on the evening of Friday 13 March. This year’s ‘Prom Night’ theme is in keeping with the ‘Nifty-50s’ theme of UnitingCare’s Big Move dance against dementia, which will take place earlier in the week, on Monday 9 March.
Many UnitingCare clients will have fond memories of dancing and jiving the night away at dance halls across Sydney during the 1950s. The Seniors’ Ball will help them relive some of those memories as well as providing a fun night out with friends and family.
UnitingCare Ageing has been hosting a Seniors’ Ball since 1996, when a dinner dance was held at the organisation’s Leichhardt service. It has since grown into a full-themed night of entertainment, food and dancing attended by hundreds of residents from aged care and community care services across metropolitan Sydney.
The event is held to coincide with NSW Seniors Week, which encourages seniors to continue to lead active lives, to stay socially connected and to engage in new activities.
This year’s ball will showcase the 1950s period with a display of dodgem cars, a hot rod exhibition, live entertainment from ‘On The Prowl’, which will feature two UnitingCare Ageing staff members and some members of the iconic Australian band Ol’ 55, as well as some surprises.
The night will start at 5:30, with patrons arriving for a 6:15 dinner, followed by an evening of dancing and entertainment.
