Aveo's new aged care home in Brisbane’s south

The Aveo Group has opened its $36 million state-of-the-art Aged Care Home at Aveo Durack.

The three-storey Aged Care Home will allow residents to ‘age in place’ to provide residents with a community for life, supported by the care services, support and facilities they need as they age, along with living options ranging from independent living through to advanced care.

The opening of Aveo’s flagship Aged Care Home follows a complete rebuild of the existing structure to incorporate 123 aged care beds in en-suite rooms ranging from 28m2 to 53m2 couples suite, a dedicated dementia wing and respite rooms.

Aveo Group executive general manager of integrated communities, Jason Eldering, said the Group placed a priority on creating a comfortable, home-like environment with contemporary features, communal spaces and spacious living options that is at the heart of all homes.

“The living options themselves break the mold of what has previously been available in aged care living, especially our Superior rooms, which are the largest we’ve ever made them, allowing couples to stay together in comfort.”

All three floors within the building are connected by common areas including open plan kitchens, coffee and dining areas, kid zones for grandchildren, piano bar, courtyards and gardens, a reflection room, beauty salon and health and wellness facilities.

The onsite health and wellness centre will be serviced by UQ Health professionals as part of Aveo Group’s ongoing Enhanced Living Program partnership with the university to provide a full time nurse and GP. The Aged Care Home will employ a total of 123 staff members who will undergo an intensive training program to ensure the highest standard of care is met.

Aveo Durack’s Aged Care Home has welcomed four previous residents plus a further six who transitioned into the home from the community’s serviced apartments.

On a recent tour of the Aged Care Home, Federal Member for Oxley Milton Dick MP said; “The new facilities at Aveo Durack are the first class for local residents.

“It’s not what you expect when you come to an aged care home and it’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into the new design to ensure residents are comfortable and have access to the best services available.”

The Aged Care Home, set within the 34-hectare retirement community, is located at 356 Blunder Road, Durack.
